Sage Creatista

Looking for the best coffee machine?  The Sage Creatista Nespresso pod coffee machine makes wonderful coffee and its clever milk frothing nozzle allows you to effortless create that perfect flat white, latte or cappuccino. And because it's a Nespresso, the coffee quality is excellent and there's a pod to suit your personal tastes. This is the machine I own and the-one-to-buy in my opinion.

Coffee, coffee, coffee! We've become a nation of coffee lovers haven't we! I can't leave the house without my latte in hand, whether it's to drive to work or to stand beside my son's football pitch at the weekend. But with coffee being so personal to us all, and with so many coffee machines on the market, can I really be so opinionated as to tell you that this Sage Creatista is THE machine for you.  Yes, I can! And I've owned a lot of coffee machines to get to that conclusion, so read on to find out why you'll not regret making this the machine that sits proudly in you kitchen.

So, what is so great about the Sage Creatista?

The Sage Creatista combines simplicity of use, with really good quality coffee. The result is consistently good coffee when you want it, and with the easy to custom settings you can get that ideal temperature 2 shot latte with hints of wood and spice, while your partner enjoys their extra hot skinny decaf flat white with notes of fruit, all at the touch of a single button.

Let me tell you about my coffee journey. About 10 years ago I decided it was high time I had a coffee machine at home. I read endless top 10 reviews and made my first coffee mistake; I bought a bean to cup machine.  These are undoubtedly the worst type of coffee machine you can buy. They make average coffee, create lots of mess and need cleaning just when you have that coffee low that makes you grumpy.  I know why people buy them; the lure of freshly ground coffee straight to your cup is extremely appealing, but they just don't live up to their billing. If you passionately want to grind your own coffee, buy a grinder and combine it with a true Barista machine where you tamp your coffee into a portafilter and froth your own coffee to your hearts content. But don't waste your time on a bean to cup.

So why not buy a Barista machine? To be clear there are some very good Barista machines out there and if you genuinely have the skills to use one, and £1000 spare, then go for it. Sage have some excellent espresso machines. But the key here is, do you have the skills? My mistake was to think I could froth the perfect latte, pour out the milk like my local Barista does and, voila, I'd be at my local coffee house without leaving my kitchen. Sadly, whilst I've watched a thousand latte's be made from one side of the cafe counter, it's not as easy as it looks. The art of coffee making is to infuse millions of micro-bubbles into the milk to change its texture and actually sweeten the milk. There is a subtle difference between flat white foam, latte foam and cappuccion foam, and it's not an easy balance to find. I'm not saying that with more time, and a lot of youtube video hours later, you and I can't master this, but 30 cappuccinos later, when all I wanted was a latte, I realised I'd made another mistake.

This all brought me to where I am today, the happy and proud owner of Sage Creatista Plus. When I want a latte, made to an ideal temperature, I pop in two pods of my favourite Arpeggio espresso coffee, then watch as my milk is frothed to perfection and then I enjoy the perfect cup. All that stands between me being grumpy and happy is making sure the water container isn't empty!

It took me a while to decide on this Nespresso machine. I could have chosen an A Modo Mio machine, which has a good Lavazza range of pods, and even pods from the nations favourite cake shop, Costa. But they are slow machines, operate at low pressure and the frother, which you buy separately uses a whisk, not steam, so the texture and sweetness is all wrong. Plus the Lavazza range of coffees is much more limited compared to Nespresso's range of coffee pods. I could have chosen a Nescafe Dolce Gusto machine; no actually I couldn't - the coffee is revolting, don't even go there.

So Nespresso it is. It took me a month to narrow down precisely which coffee pods I like the most, but as Nespresso provide a selection box with every purchase this was an enjoyable experiment not a chore. I drink Arpeggio pods, my husband drinks Ristretto decaffeinated and we are both happy :)

If there is one thing about the Nespresso pod solution that we would like to see improvement on, it's the watse and recycling. Although the aluminium cases are recyclable and Nespresso operate a free recycling collection, which we use, it would be nice to see them move towards a compostable pod solution.

The Creatista Plus usually retails for £499.95 but you is currently on sale at Amazon for just £328 (31% off) which is a bargain!
