Dualit NewGen 4 Slice Toaster

Dualit 4 with background.webp

Looking for the best toaster? The Dualit 4 slice toaster is it! Choose how many slices you are toasting and then spin the timer. Lift your bread mid-cook to see how toasted it is. This is the machine I own and the-one-to-buy in my opinion.

A toaster is a toaster isn't it? Can one really be better than another? For 25 years of adult life I thought all toasters were the same. They came in 2 or 4 slices, you put bread in them and toast came out. But then one day I came across a kitchen that had a Dualit in it and my world changed!

So what makes a Dualit so good? Four things! Firstly, its simplicity. Whereas most conventional toasters today have an electromagnet on the lever you push down, the Dualit just has a handle you move up and down. These electromagnets are always the first thing to break on any toaster and the reason you've owned five £20 toasters in the past 10 years. They are also the reason you can't lift your bread mid toasting to see if it's cooked or not.

Secondly, the Dualit has extra wide slots for your bread, so there's no need to cram a thick slice of bread into this toaster only to watch it burn and disintegrate. And they are pretty tall, so you can toast all of the slice of bread. Wow! This really is an ingenious design!

Thirdly, and probably the most sophisticated thing you get, is a knob to select how many slices of toast you are cooking. If you select 1, you pop your bead in the left most slice and watch as it cooks evenly on both sides. You are probably used to watching your bread toast (or burn) more on one side than the other because the heat from the right slot overheats the bread on the left slot. But not any more! If you are toasting 3 slices, switch the dial to 3!

And finally, and I think most importantly, the Dualit is a fully repairable product, meaning all of its components can be replaced if they break, so you don't need to throw the whole thing away and buy another £20 cheap, plastic toaster. But that said, I've had mine for 5 years now and nothing has broken. It is made of stainless steel, is well made and looks just as shiney and nice as the day I bought it.

There are a lot of Dualit models so be ceraful which one you buy. Make sure you choose one that has the option to select 1, 2, 3 and 4 slices, not just 1,2 and 4.
